Matthew wrote his Greek Gospel in the Near East around the year A.D. 85.  His Gospel was the one most quoted in the early church.  People loved his concrete guidance for Christian living, especially the Sermon on the Mount.  Matthew focuses on Jesus' great theme, the Kingdom of God.  This is the goal, the hope and the promise in Matthew's Gospel.  Many events and discourses in this Gospel take place on mountains, places of eschatological divine revelation.  Our program will examine a selection of these.

Resource Persons:  Benedict Viviano, OP, Ph.D., a New Testament scholar and author, is Professor of Scripture at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland.  His most recent publication is Matthew and His World (2007).  An earlier work is a commentary on Matthew, The Kingdom of God in History (2002).  His current interest is Matthew's relationship with the Gospel of John.
