Adult Faith Formation
“And let the peace of Christ rule your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs of God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  Col. 3:15-17

My hope for Adult Faith Formation is found in Paul’s letter. Imagine if as a society, a church, and a culture we truly let peace rule our hearts. Imagine how if, as one body we used our collective God-given gifts to heal a broken and wounded world. Imagine if we held each other accountable for our actions how the power of reconciliation would bring new hope. And imagine if we gave thanks for all we have instead of feeling less than whole because of what we do not have.

Faith formation happens! Be it intentional or unintentional, every life experience is an opportunity to live out our Baptismal Covenant. The question for the teacher/learner, learner /teacher is how we bring this revelation to the surface for adults who are living in a world counter to Christ’s teachings, a society which puts the secular life above a spiritual, faith-filled life.

For those of us who are committed to providing meaningful faith formation experiences to God’s people, it begins with understanding that our work is a ministry, not a task. It also means we should be acutely aware that our own spiritual wellness is critical if we are going to accompany others on their journies.

We are called into community. It is essential to understand “programs” alone are not the answer. They are the means by which information can be shared and relationships can be built and celebrated.

The information on this site is a collation of “best practices” and published material made accessible through the generosity of the authors. I hope that you will find this information to be useful. I invite you to share your own thoughts and comments about what is happening in the area of Adult Faith Formation within the church.

Shalom,
Ruth-Ann
