The idea of a youth service corps was first conceived and articulated by the Standing Commission on Anglican and International Peace with Justice Concerns. This Commission presented a resolution to the 73rd General Convention of the Episcopal Church (2000).
The Convention, reflecting a revitalized commitment to young people, responded by establishing and funding the "Episcopal Youth Corps. What is important for you to gather from that barrage of offices is that YASC was brought together by a diversity of Episcopal voices concerned with peace, young adults, and mission." Since renamed as the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC). YASC is a program of the Mission Leadership Center through the Mission Personnel Office and the Office for Young Adults and Campus Ministries.
