Solemn Procession
A procession undertaken with full ceremonial, usually at the beginning of a festive liturgy or on some penitential occasions. The procession ordinarily includes all the participating ministers, lay and ordained. The route of the procession takes them around the inside of the church. In some customaries, the procession begins and ends at the altar. Often the procession involves the use of incense. It is customary for many parishes to say or sing the Great Litany (BCP, pp. 148-54) in conjunction with a solemn procession during Lent and on Rogation Days.
