TORRINGTON, CT--Kale, snow peas and lettuce are just some of the fruits of harvest at the Prime Time House’s community garden.
A decade ago the Prime Time House, which assists those with mental disabilities find a path to independence, has hosted a community garden on its property. Ten plots of land are available for rental, for any person or organization interested in growing fresh food, said Mary Baker, unit leader for career services. A garden was started there by then-Executive Director Elaine Frost, who sought to create a garden for the organization’s members, Baker said. Then, Harwinton residents Ann and Thomas Bott, who are members of Trinity Episcopal Church, helped organize an effort to create a community garden, bringing it up to the scale it is today, she said.
