Local churches are Feeling the Financial Crunch as Demands Get Greater

It makes sense that churches are starting to feel the sting from a slumping economy and the Wall Street meltdown. Often churches are where people show up for help. And at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem more people have been showing up at the church's soup kitchen.

The church's Soup Kitchen Coordinator Liz Miller says the church has served almost 1,500 more meals for this year through September than during the same period in 2007.

Other local social agencies and churches also are reporting an increase in people asking for assistance. Even churchgoers who aren't asking for meals and social services are jittery about the economy and finances. So some churchgoers are looking for some spiritual answers to financial problems.
