The following is a true copy of a Resolution adopted by the Executive Council at its meeting on November 12 � 15, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois, at which a quorum was present and voting.
Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Chicago, IL, November 12-15, 2006, requests all governmental leaders in countries where The Episcopal Church is present to:
1. Allow the Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople (Istanbul) to reopen immediately its theological seminary at the Monastery of the Holy Trinity on Halki Island for the training of Orthodox clergy;
2. Recognize the Patriarch�s title of Ecumenical Patriarch, the honorific title for him recognized and used by all Christian Churches since the sixth century;
3. Restore all properties confiscated from the Patriarchate in Turkey, in particular the Orthodox orphanage of Prinkipos on the Prince Island (Buyukado);
establish clearly the legal status of the Patriarchate in the context of Turkish civil law; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council directs the Office of Government Relations to pursue these objectives; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council informs the government of Turkey and the Foreign Minister of the European Union of these concerns; and be it further
Resolved, That the Executive Council notifies His All Holiness Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch and His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America of these actions.
