In 1982, shortly before the 67th General Convention of the Episcopal Church convened in New Orleans, The Rev. Canon James R. Gundrum, D.D., then the Executive Officer of the General Convention, delivered remarks about the General Convention as part of the Arrington Lecture Series at Sewanee, the University of the South. Published now by the General Convention Office at the Episcopal Church Center, the lectures offer historical background on the organization of the Episcopal Church and of the General Convention. They also provide an interesting lesson about the issues that faced the Church in 1982, some of which will be facing the Bishops and Deputies in 2006.
